WA: 12 peace activists pull out of Baghdad but Perth man stays

The so-called International Peace Team has withdrawn half its 24 campaigners from Baghdad, but a Western Australian man has stayed behind.

The withdrawal leaves just 12 of its activists in the Iraqi capital - including PerthUniting Church minister NEVILLE WATSON.

The news that Mr WATSON would remain in the city, the subject of fierce coalition bombing, came as his son MIKE led about 100 protesters in a silent anti-war march through Perth.

MIKE WATSON says he heard the news of his father's decision to stay from the peaceteam office, based in the US state of Illinois.

On Monday he said that an email he received from his father at the weekend would bethe last because Iraqi authorities had moved to curb foreigners' communications.

He's not heard from his father since.
